Sukkot
Sukkot, סֻכּוֹת, called the Feast of Booths or the Festival of Shelters
The imagery and ritual of the holiday very much revolves around rejoicing and thanking God for the harvest. The sukkah represents the huts that farmers live in during the last and hectic period of harvest before the the winter rains.
Eating and sleeping uncomfortably in those booths remind us that, with a slight twist of fate, we might be the homeless or refugees we see on the street or learn about from the news. It is our responsibility to empathize.
The crafts we highlight include harvest dishes and the Etrog Box.
